Between 2006 and 2010 I had a lovely yoga space to teach from in Port Hope. I gave it up when I became pregnant, and moved to British Columbia. Closing that space shifted my whole business and when I returned to Port Hope just a few months later I had to begin again – teaching from the living room of my new home.
From there I taught through a variety of spaces over the next decade. Multiple churches and other yoga studios in Cobourg and Port Hope, private lessons in homes and businesses, libraries, community centers in Northumberland, parks, a back yard in Wicklow, and I even worked at Ste.Anne’s Spa as a wellness instructor for a few years.
It’s been a lot of shifting and changing and learning over the years. Since the pandemic I have really had to streamline my business, and when life went on post-pandemic I chose to stay in one location to teach, a lovely cozy room in a church in Port Hope. The gift of the pandemic, is it taught me to shift online to zoom, making my classes accessible to people they may not have been accessible to before. It still feels like a relatively “new” branch of my business, but as I gain comfort with the online world, I plan to expand my classes and workshops more.
Although the in-person classes are still the most “high demand” the online classes are a great option if you’re on the wait-list. They are also a great option if you are in need of a gentle yoga class, but not located near us. I invite you to join us in the comfort of your own home! Currently the online class runs Friday mornings at 10am.
I send out a monthly newsletter, if you’re interested in keeping up to date on classes and workshops you can sign up here: The Gentle Way of Hatha.
Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel as well: @YogaCanada. There you will find mini-yoga classes, pranayama exercises and guided meditations, and the occasional “yoga rant.” I also talk about my journey living with fibromyalgia. I would love for you to be part of my online yoga community, whether it’s in Port Hope or in the virtual world. Welcome.
