“Not all of us can do great things,
but we can all do small things with great love.”
– Mother Teresa –
It’s so easy to lose faith in people. To lose faith in the government, to lose faith in our legal or educational systems, to lose faith in god or a higher source/power… but it doesn’t really matter where your faith lies, if we do not, or cannot, take individual accountability and responsibility.
I read a lot of books, and hear a lot of talk around “soul contracts” and “spirit guides” and these esoteric words and intangible ideas outside of ourselves that somehow give us answers or insight into our lives and the world around us. All wonderful tools IF it helps you DO something to help yourself or the world around you.
There’s a lot of fear dominating people these days, and there is a lot of conflict, and anger, and upheaval. It’s a part of living this human experience. But we can still choose how we deal with it, learn what we can and can’t control, and decide accordingly.
Want to make a positive difference in the world, but feel overwhelmed? Start with just one thing. It could be something small, something simple, like these “pay it forward” gestures. Buy someone a coffee, give someone a smile, hold the door.
What are you most passionate about?
- The Environment?
- Child Advocacy?
- Addiction recovery?
- Healthcare?
- Education?
- The econonmy?
- The legal system?
Choose just one thing. Then commit to making it better. Safer. Stronger. Happier. Just better in some small way. Volunteer your time, donate money, go back to school and get more involved, make it your livelihood.
If you are miserable, then you are going to spread misery to your family, friends, coworkers, and the world. Take a time out! Take account. Make an honest assessment of your life, where you are (and why), and what do you want? What else might make you happy? What can you do to attain that?
A happy person is more likely to change lives every day. YOU can make the life of every being you meet BETTER… but ARE you?
How can you start showing up fully for yourself? In your power? In true love and happiness? How can you start showing up fully in this world, for the better? Commit first to yourself, then your passion, then take action.
Heal yourself, heal your family, heal your community, heal your country, heal the world. One step at a time.
Be a better parent. Be a better teacher. Be a better lawyer. Be a better officer. Be a better neighbor. Be a better friend. A better partner. Even just for one person, but especially for yourself. Up-level your life, take accountability and responsibility for your role in all of it.
