Practicing Self-Love on Valentine’s

Valentine’s is a super-charged holiday, very few people are “neutral” about it; either they love it or they hate it. Regardless of your stance on this day of love, it’s a great invitation to reflect on your own relationships, with yourself and others.

If you’re not in a relationship, a few questions to reflect on might be:

  • How do you love yourself?
  • What can you do to care for yourself more?
  • What quality of relationships do you have with your friends and family?
  • Can you put yourself first, so you can love and care for others better?
  • What boundaries could you put up in your life as a practice of self-love (and self-preservation!)?
  • Could you open your heart more?

If you are in a relationship, a few questions to reflect on might be:

  • How does your partner show their love and respect towards you (and you them)?
  • Do you feel content in your relationship (and if not, how could you work together to improve it)?
  • What is the level of co-dependence in the relationship, and does it feel healthy?
  • When was the last time you did something for fun/ went on a date?
  • Do you know each others love languages?
  • Could you open your heart more?

Grab a pen and a journal and write some of your insights down! Or discuss them with your friends or partner.

How will you show or celebrate self-love on this special day? Buy yourself some flowers? Book a spa treatment? Treat yourself to a special meal? Be kind and gentle with yourself, and be sure to practice love of Self, and others.

Let’s make this harsh world a more loving place, not just on Valentine’s Day, but every day.
